SARNZ are thrilled to have partnered with NAWIC as a sponsor for 2022/23.
NAWIC aims to be the leading voice for women in the construction industry, with the motto include-respect-inspire. There are around 1050 members nationwide with chapters in Auckland, Tauranga, Waikato, Wellington and Christchurch, and satellite chapters currently being established in Queenstown and Dunedin. Men are encouraged to and do join NAWIC.
"At these chapters members come together to be inspired, included and respected." says Stacey Mendonca - Immediate Past President.
"NAWIC has provided a range of activities including hands-on workshops, debates, schools careers events, networking, site visits, peer mentoring sessions, feature films, inspiring speaker events, online professional development sessions, social events, mid-winter dinners, IWD events, National Heels and Steel networking events, educational workshops and photo exhibitions."
SARNZ General Manager, Tina Wieczorek says of the partnership, "We are so happy to be able to play a small part and show our support for NAWIC. As highlighted in our last platform edition, we have many incredible wāhine in our industry and it is excellent to see this growth across the trades, particularly in Scaffold. NAWIC do an amazing job at encouraging and supporting wāhine to pursue and maintain successful, sustainable careers in trades and this is a message we identify with and value."
The NAWIC Excellence Awards have become a successful way to highlight super stars from within the industry and is a key event in the construction industry social calendars. This year NAWIC received a record breaking 190 entries in 10 categories.
NAWIC has developed a public and media presence, and advice is regularly sought from Government Departments and media outlets. Women in construction now have a place to belong, they can find support and connection that keeps them employed in the industry and attracts new talent.
SARNZ encourage its members to check them out, join and attend the events to support more female in trades. Too apply for membership, head over to their website here - https://www.nawic.org.nz/
