Apply for Recognition for Rigging CoC

This certification encompasses the competence to securely configure and manage the transportation of loads over distances, typically while suspended, and handle a range of hoisting devices and rigging equipment. It serves as the initial stage of the rigging progression and covers the fundamental aspects of rigging.

Please note, this course is for the Certificate of Competence only. No NZQA Qualification is issued with this assessment.

Before you apply:

Applicants need to submit proof of work history, CV and Referees which must show practical experience. For applicants with only practical experience, you must gain the following units before being able to progress:

Minimum units required are:

• L 3. Rigging
• 6401 - Provide First Aid
• 6402 Provide basic life support 0r 26551 Provide 1^st aid for life threatening conditions
• 3789 - Sling varied regular loads and safely during crane operations
• 23229 - Use safety harness system when working at height
• 15757 - Use, install and disestablish proprietary height safety systems when working at height
• 30692 - Perform basic calculations used in a given trade situation
• 30072 - Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely
• 23966, 23960, 23962 - MEWP (Optional)
• 30264 Demonstrate Duties, Rights, Representation and the regulator in terms of NZ health and safety legislation.

This certification acknowledges your intermediate level of expertise in rigging. It serves as the second phase of the rigging progression, and upon completion, those who complete the assessment will possess the ability to plan, organize, execute, and guide a team through various rigging operations. Additionally, it is a mandatory requirement for obtaining the NZC in Rigging (Level 5).

• 3801 - Prepare and sling complex loads for crane operations

Minimum units required are:

• 6401 - Provide First Aid
• 6402 Provide basic life support or 26551 Provide 1^st aid for life threatening conditions
• 23229 - Use safety harness system when working at height
• 15757 - Use, install and disestablish proprietary height safety systems when working at height
• 30692 - Perform basic calculations used in a given trade situation
• 30072 - Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely or 3789 - Sling varied regular loads safely during crane operations
• 23966, 23960, 23962 - MEWP (Optional)
• 30264 Demonstrate Duties, Rights, Representation and the regulator in terms of NZ health and safety legislation.

Same as Level 3 but also including:

• 3801 - Prepare and sling complex loads for crane operations

Check the entry criteria above carefully.  Use the chart to determine which CoC (Elementary or Intermediate) to apply for.

Make sure you have completed all the prerequisite training requirements before you apply.

Collect copies of evidence and have this ready.

Apply to SARNZ by making your online payment and completing the online forms.

When your application is received you will be sent a link to a folder where you will upload your completed Applicant Evidence Guide and Checklist and your portfolio of evidence.  SARNZ will review your evidence and contact you if more evidence is required.

Do not apply until you have completed the prerequisite training.

SARNZ will review your uploaded evidence and contact you if more information is required.

If your collection of evidence is complete, a SARNZ Rigging assessor will review your application of evidence.

Your assessor will contact you to discuss your evidence.

As part of the Recognition for Rigging CoC process the assessor will contact you to arrange a time to have a competency discussion.  This is to discuss the evidence you have provided and learn more about your experience, knowledge, and skills.

The assessor will also contact your Professional Referees to confirm the standard of your work.

Your assessor will arrange for you to complete a theory assessment. The assessment consists of questions about the planning and application of techniques to perform rigging activities safely and competently. You will also be required to fill in appropriate forms, including planning documents.

If the assessor requires more evidence you may be required to do a practical assessment or further unit standard training.

If the rigging assessor finds that you meet the requirements for the Recognition for Rigging CoC, you will be notified of a successful outcome.

You will also be contacted to discuss options if you do not meet the requirements – which may include gap filling training.

Allow up to 30 working days for the Recognition for Rigging CoC assessment process to be completed.

Following a successful application, you will be notified that you qualify for the Recognition for Scaffolding CoC.

SARNZ will notify you when you have completed your assessment of your results and will be in touch shortly after to issue your Certificate of Competence.

Please note, this is a CoC process only, no NZQA qualification is issued through this process so this will not be reflected on your record of learning. It is important that the applicant ensures that once the CoC is gained, that it is kept up to date at all times.
