As we cross over into the second half of the year, now is a great time to refresh our understanding around the Restricted Assessments and the Recognition for Scaffolding CoC.
The team at SARNZ wishes to simplify this information as much as possible to offer more clarity and understanding.
Below is a comprehensive guide that can be used as reference point for any employer or admin wishing to enroll employees in the Restricted Assessment or Recognition for Scaffolding CoC.
Restricted Assessments
This pathway has been designed to cater to those who hold a valid work visa & overseas qualification.
The applicant will complete a 2 day assessment with a SARNZ appointed assessor, they will be assessed on both theory and practical builds.
SARNZ utilizes a conversion table to assess what level can be applied for based on the overseas qualification held, we can currently only accommodate overseas qualifications that can be linked back to NZQA unit standard.
A successful applicant can then be awarded with a Restricted CoC that is valid for 4 years, this CoC cannot be renewed.
Here are some important questions to consider prior to applying:
- Do I have a valid Work Visa?
- Is my overseas qualification still valid?
- Do I have a minimum of 5 months experience in NZ?
- Do I hold my Working at Heights units (23229 & 15757)?
If your applicant can answer “yes” to the above questions then please proceed to submitting an application.
We understand that the information outlined above will cover the majority on instances, if you believe your applicant falls outside of this please feel free to email our admin at admin@sarnz.org.nz for further guidance.
Recognition for Scaffolding CoC
This pathway has been set out to offer those with an overseas qualification and extensive work history a way onto a SARNZ CoC. For anyone on a Restricted CoC, this is he next step in order to progress off of the Restricted.
There is no formal NZQA Certificate awarded upon completion of this and the applicant will only be issued with a CoC (without restriction and renewable every 4 years).
Each applicant will need to ensure they have gained all the required prerequisite units.
Any missing units can be gained at an NZQA accredited education provider, it is important that any units gained will be uploaded to the applicants NZQA record of learning.
Here are some important questions to consider prior to applying:
- Have I studied the conversion table to see what level I can apply for?
- Have I gained all the perquisite units for the level I am applying for?
If your applicant can answer “yes” to the above questions then please proceed to submitting an application.
Please note, we strongly recommend that anyone applying for Advanced level first submits an application that clearly details their work experience. This must be submitted prior to the booking of any Suspended Units.
If you are unsure of any of the information relating to this pathway, please email our admin at admin@sarnz.org.nz.
